In line with its commitment to the exploration and preservation of the oceans, Blancpain has supported the World Ocean Summit since its first edition in 2012. The 5th Summit took place from March 7th to 9th 2018 at the Riviera Maya in Mexico and marked the beginning of a new phase in the co-operation between the watch Manufacture and The Economist. This prestigious international conference is indeed taking on a new dimension this year with the launch of the World Ocean Initiative. As the founding partner, Blancpain is proud to broaden its contribution to this project which reflects its core values: long-term vision, optimism and innovation.

It is within the framework of this new initiative that the Manufacture Blancpain – creator of the first modern diving watch – and The Economist have set up The Protectors program. This is designed to support six individual projects which contribute in an innovative and significant manner to the objective of having 30% of the planet’s oceans classified into marine protected areas by 2030. Over a 24-month period, the public will have an opportunity to discover the work and achievements accomplished by six key figures through a series of short movies, discussion panels and an interactive digital campaign. This new program was presented at the opening of the World Ocean Summit with the screening of the documentary Ocean Series (Season 2, Troubled Water), produced by The Economist Films with the exclusive support of Blancpain.

Hundreds of guests recently gathered to commemorate the anniversary of the Fifty Fathoms, the first modern diving watch, on Sentosa Island in Singapore. Arriving at sunset, select media, VIPs, business partners, and watch collectors, were greeted with a bespoke ‘Blue Fathoms’ cocktail and a welcome speech by Ms. Emmy Tellier, Regional Brand Manager Blancpain of South-East Asia, highlighting the close links between the brand and the underwater world over the past 65 years. Also present for the occasion, Mr. Marc Junod, Vice President & Head of Sales at Blancpain, introduced attendees to the brand's long-standing commitment in favor of the exploration and protection of the oceans.

In tribute to its longstanding tradition of hand craftsmanship, Blancpain recently hosted a private Métiers d’Art event held for the first time at the Swiss Residence in Singapore. Over two days, selected guests had the opportunity to discover the brand’s expertise in decorative and finishing techniques through a series of live demonstrations.

In the presence of the Swiss Ambassador to Singapore, His Excellency Mr. Fabrice Filliez, Blancpain recently welcomed collectors, VIP clients, business partners and journalists to an exclusive cocktail reception and gourmet dinner. Founded in 1735, Blancpain was honoured to host this "2018 Novelties & Métiers d’Art" event in the Swiss Residence (Singapore) – a premiere for a Swiss watchmaking brand. “Together, we have the same objective: to promote Swiss craftsmanship and to bring it closer to the Singaporean public”, added Emmy Tellier, Regional Brand Manager S.E.A. for Blancpain.

On the occasion of this event, the Manufacture displayed the largest Métiers d’Art collection out of Switzerland including its first dials featuring Binchōtan, a charcoal made from Ubamegashi oak in the Kishu region of Japan. Specially flown-in for the two evening event, a master-engraver from Blancpain’s Métiers d’Art studios in Le Brassus (Vallée de Joux, Switzerland) animated a series of live demonstrations and shared his passion with detailed explanations.

After lining up on the grid of Italy’s legendary Autodromo Nazionale Monza circuit, 53 cars vied with each other in the first round of the Blancpain Endurance Series, cheered on by 30'000 spectators. In parallel, the Blancpain GT Sports Club championship paid its first visit to the prestigious Italian venue, with 17 drivers competing in this first round.

It is with a sense of special emotion that Blancpain opened the Bocuse d'Or Suisse competition today as official timekeeper. The Manufacture supported the Swiss chefs selected to compete in creating the dishes submitted to the Jury. After much deliberation, the chef Mario Garcia was named the winner of this 2018 edition. He had the honor of receiving the Blancpain Trophy, along with a Bathyscaphe watch from the iconic Fifty Fathoms collection, specially hand-engraved for the occasion.

The watchmaking Maison celebrated the official opening of its New York boutique, located at 697 Fifth Avenue, together with internationally renowned chef and friend of the brand, Joël Robuchon.

The longstanding friendship between the Manufacture Blancpain and the talented French chef was marked by a double celebration. As the watch brand was launching its brand-new New York boutique, the winner of 31 Michelin stars was simultaneously opening his "L'Atelier Joël Robuchon" restaurant in a nearby district, the latest addition to those already established in Europe, Asia and North America. He took the opportunity of these two perfectly synchronized births to join Blancpain for the opening of its new 375 sq.m (i.e. 4,036 sq.ft) sales area spread over two floors, featuring a freshly reinterpreted design.
On this occasion, journalists and friends of the brand attending the occasion enjoyed a private tour providing an introduction to the premises and the Blancpain universe. This was followed by a friendly yet passionate dialogue between Alain Delamuraz - Vice-President & Head of Marketing at Blancpain - and the great French chef, focusing on common core values such as the quest for quality and excellence, expertise, a deft touch and meticulous workmanship.

At the end of the visit, in a sudden burst of enthusiasm, Joël Robuchon seized the opportunity to carry off with the boutique’s wall clock. He proudly reinstalled his prize in his new establishment as a symbol of his “deep attachment to the Manufacture in the Vallée de Joux”, while emphasizing that “time is an essential ingredient in cooking”.
For more than 30 years, long before haute cuisine achieved its current popularity, the Maison Blancpain has enjoyed friendly ties with some of the greatest exponents of this art. Its relationship with Joël Robuchon, to cite the case in point, dates back to 1989 when he, Frédy Girardet and Paul Bocuse were nominated “Chefs of the Century” by the Gault&Millau guide, and the brand presented them each with a specially engraved watch to commemorate this distinction. Over the years, the Manufacture has unremittingly pursued and consolidated its commitment to the Art of Living with internationally renowned chefs.
